In 1992, Celadon owner and founder Steve Lesniak relocated from England to Charleston, South Carolina. Recognizing a gap in the local market for unique, artisanally crafted furniture and decor, he opened Celadon in 1994 to offer a fresh perspective on home goods. Proudly partnering as a Rowe retailer for more than two decades, the shop has evolved into a local Charleston institution featuring a curated collection of solid wood furniture, custom upholstery, antiques, and unexpected finds from local makers and artisans the world over. While Steve entrusted daily operations to his dedicated team in 2018, the shop’s selection remains a true reflection of his free-spirited, adventurous, and worldly core.

What makes your shop unique?
It’s equal parts our people and our products; without either we would not have the special place we have created. We are so proud of the impressive tenure within our team, all of whom are as fun and funny as they are knowledgeable. Our customers are also an invaluable part of the magic; they really hold a similar energy to the team. In fact, we constantly get compliments on the good energy in this store!
We always say our store floor is a place where quality and beauty meet, with a “clean European lines meets California casual” vibe. We offer an ever-changing mix of handmade upholstery and casegoods, paired with one-of-a-kinds we source by hand from every corner of the earth. Our ultimate goal is that there is always something new to see, and what you choose to purchase is going to have a lot of longevity!
How does your shop make customers feel?
We want our store to be a place to both gather and gain inspiration. Our evolving inventory of curiosities and cool pieces makes popping in feel like a new experience each time. Special events featuring artists, photographers, tarot readings, food trucks, product launches, and family-friendly activities make us a destination for fun and connection that we hope will keep our community coming back time and time again. Furniture shopping can honestly be intimidating, but we strive to keep the mood light and interesting. We’re all about the good energy!
