Madison, WI-based Dwellings opened as a locally-owned furniture store and design studio in the early 1980s, and is now run by the founders’ daughters, Jennifer Haley and Julie Umhoefer. Renamed Dwellings in 2011, the shop has been a longtime member of the Rowe family of retailers for much longer. The shop specializes in custom, American-made furnishings and now includes a showroom that is inspired by the layout of the Rowe showroom in North Carolina. The owners’ goal is to create a fun, friendly and stress-free environment, with an abundance of creativity and products to inspire unique home interiors.

What makes your shop unique?

We are always in search of small companies for accessories, unique textiles (which is why we LOVE Rowe), and items/combinations to take the customer out of their "comfort zone." Oftentimes, people come in thinking they know what they want and are inspired to completely change their thoughts. Our affordable in-home design services also differentiate us from others.

How does your shop make customers feel?

Our store is fresh, upbeat, and unlike "big-box" stores. We have polished concrete floors, brick walls, hanging light fixtures, and refreshing textiles on our upholstery. People immediately realize that this is a unique shopping experience, different from anywhere else in town. We LOVE color and aren't afraid to show it!

The throw pillows and extra pillows are 20" and non-welted.
Pieces are held together with mechanical clips.

  • Brass or Gold nails comes with Brass casters and Pewter or Black Nickel nails comes with Pewter Casters. You can choose either caster finish if no nails are applied to the frame. Must select Nail option before Leg option will become available in the customize form below.

    • Fabrics NM & RS pattern types will have seams approximately 52" out from the center on seat cushion, back cushion, front seat rail, in -back, and outback.
